Off to Olympia!

Well hello again!

This morning we grabbed a picnic lunch from a market across the street and then embarked on a quick bus ride to Nestor's palace. Unfortunately, our dear friend Nestor's archaeological site was closed, so we made a visit to its museum. First,Tess gave her talk about Pylos and Linear B, and then we entered the small building. Pots, pots, and more pots! Although this museum at first seemed very similar to the others we visited, it proved to be a vital part of today's adventure. A diorama allowed us to see what we missed even though we couldn't see the site in person (pretty awesome to look at). Our prime art history knowledge allowed us to appreciate the Palace from the small amount of info we got in the museum. :)

After Nestor, we drove for two and a half hours to arrive at the Temple of Apollo at Bassae. Presented by Elizabeth, this large tented temple gave us an incredible view of what a mainly intact construction looked like in ancient times. The weathered rock and fluted columns left us in awe even in the temple's simple location.

For the second half of our day, we boarded the bus for another two hour trek. Friendship bracelets, book reading, and long naps occupied us until we arrived in the quaint but touristy Olympia. We had time to do some quality souvenir shopping as well as a gelato break before eating dinner at a restaurant with funky music. Finally we headed back to our hotel for a good night's sleep - can't wait to see what's in store for tomorrow!

xoxo,

Lia and Julia
